Referred to as "the most widely translated Hebrew poet since King David", Amichai made aliya to pre-State Israel with his family at the age of 11. He fought in the pre-state Palmach and in the 1948 War of Independence. He wrote poems that addressed daily life in Israel and Man's search for meaning.
