Born in Russia, Chaim Weizmann was a leader in science, having close contact with British leaders, playing a major role concerning the Balfour Declaration. He became interested and active in the Zionist movement and later was elected to the General Zionist Council. Weizmenn served as the First president of Israel until his death.
