First Congress - Basle, Switzerland

200 people from 17 countries convene in Basel to discuss the prospect of a future Jewish homeland in the Palestine. The dream of a Jewish homeland became plausable to the international delegates. During this congress was the creation of the World Zionist Organisation, a democratic international organisation to which Herzl was appointed head, giving him the power to negotiate with world leaders regarding the Jewish demand for a homeland.
