After the Muslim conquest, Spain became a good environment for Jews, and they in contributed greatly to society until the Almohades came to power. Avraham Ibn Ezra, Bachya ibn Pakuda (author of the Kuzari), and Yehuda HaLevi lived in Spain during this time.
