Operation Entebbe/Yonatan
1976
4 terrorists hijacked an Air France plane on route to France. They redirected the place to Entebbe Airport where they proceeded to select the Jewish and Israeli passengers, keeping them hostage and demanding a high ransom in exchange for their lives. Israel sent their elite IDF force Sayeret Matkal unit led by Yonatan Netanyahu to rescue the hostages. Four Israeli aircrafts landed undercover on the Entebbe tarmac in the top secret rescue mission. Within 20 minutes, the hostages were being evacuated onto the IDF aircrafts, finally safe. During this dramatic victory, Yonatan Netanyahu, commander of the first aircraft’s Sayeret Matkal rescue unit was shot and killed.
