Jews were permitted to return to Israel after the Babylonian exile. Led by Ezra and Nechemia, the Second Beit HaMikdash was built, the walls around Jerusalem were fixed, and the Anshe Knesset HaGedolah was formed. Israel and the second Beit HaMikdash were not at the same level of granduer as they were during the first Beit HaMikdash period.
