Updated: Sep 19, 2022

A family group of high school grads from 8 different countries have just begun their journey of discovery, personal development, independence, and adventure in Israel!

Stay tuned to this blog as we follow them around Israel as they forge their paths with Kivun 5783!

Kivun is a Co-ed, experiential, 9-month Israel immersion program for the Northern Hemisphere, focusing on personal development, independent living and Jewish growth. Participants live in apartments in Jerusalem, where together with friends they learn about themselves, Judaism and Zionism through an incredible array of experiences such as Kibbutz, Volunteering, Seminars, Professional Internship, Magen David Adom, and IDF experience. Erev Shabbat Shalom,
Our participants finally arrived!!!
After much anticipation and effort, we excitedly greeted our notable participants at Ben Gurion. Although this happened only two days ago, it feels like we’ve been together for a long time!
After unpacking and settling in Tuesday night, we headed to the Kotel for our opening ceremony.
We discussed how in the past when we were in Israel, it was like we were home. Now we delete the word “like.” We are Home!
After some beautiful group singing and a traditional Bnei Akiva mifkad, we walked back through the old city and finally got some rest.

Wednesday was orientation. We tried our best to frame the rules and standards of Kivun in a way that would promote growth and adherence. We emphasized the idea that this year is for them and primarily on them to take the initiative.
Our scavenger hunt to learn our way around Jerusalem was (hopefully) fun and memorable. And very hot.

On Thursday, we met with Efrat Meltzer from World Bnei Akiva and began a conversation about boundaries. We then discussed how each individual could contribute to the group and decided on the different committees to put in place for our year. We then headed out on our first Tiyul to Eretz Ayalim, where we overcame our fears and bonded as a group. Finally, we gathered together for an inspiring Mishamar. Ohad Tal, our deputy general of World Bnei Akiva, joined us and shared inspiring opening remarks. We spoke about how this new start doubles with the beginning of Elul and our preparation for Rosh Hashana. We left off with a powerful message to understand and recognize the value of what we have in our hands. The night continues with singing and sharing our feelings and hopes for the year.
We look forward to an amazing Shabbat together and many more inspiring moments and special memories. If you would like to stay updated daily feel free to follow us on Instagram @kivun5783
Shabbat Shalom
