Limmud at Mechina and Tzahal week

Updated: Sep 19, 2022

Limmud is a Co-ed, experiential, 9-month study and Israel immersion program for the Southern Hemisphere. The program aims to develop 5 circles of “identity” including: Jewish, Zionist, Spiritual, Communal & Personal. Within this framework, participants spend time at Yeshiva/Midrasha, and experience Israel with a wide array of activities and educational modules, as well as a meaningful journey to Poland. Limmud culminates with a 3-month collaborative with our Mechina Olamit, together with Israelis, and participants from the Northern Hemisphere.

Shalom!

Limmud has begun the Mechina period and are enjoying it to the fullest. I decided to let one of our chanichim write this week's newsletter so you can hear it from them first hand.

A big thank you to Tali Atie from Johannesburg, South Africa for sharing her personal and group experience!

The past two weeks of Mechina have been jam-packed and incredibly insightful. We have had talks and sessions about the history and culture of Israel, how to navigate our Judaism and other thought-provoking topics. These sessions have been very helpful in challenging our opinions and expanding our knowledge about relevant topics in our lives. We have spent time in our committees, made tochniyot, exercised, had movie nights and are making the most of our time at Migdal Oz. We are growing closer as a group and are creating unbreakable bonds.

For the past 4 days, we have been on ‏שבוע צה״ל (army week) where we experienced basic training by real ‏מפקדים (commanders). We were required to challenge ourselves physically and emotionally and push our boundaries with early morning wake-ups, long runs, and many many push-ups.

Though it was intense, we pushed through as a whole group and finished the week with a good attitude and perseverance. I feel so privileged to be on this amazing program and can’t wait to see what the next few weeks entail.
