Dear Parents,
This email includes a brief overview of the upcoming weeks in Mechina, along with important information to help you stay informed. Please note that, due to logistical considerations, we’ve made a few changes to the original schedule. The updated order is as follows (and has also been reflected in the calendar):
Shvil YisraelHiking Israel’s National Trail is a transformative experience that goes far beyond the physical challenge. Over 10 days, the chanichim build resilience and independence while trekking through Israel’s diverse terrain — from desert to mountains. This journey deepens their personal connection to the land and provides a meaningful opportunity to bond with other Hachshara programs.
Tzahal WeekThis week is designed to not only simulate an authentic IDF experience but also aims to instill discipline, responsibility, teamwork, and personal endurance. The chanichim will be guided by "mefakdim" and will experience a structured, challenging routine similar to army life. Important Notice:Phones will be limited to two 30-minute sessions per day. Staff will always be reachable if needed in urgent situations.
Navigation WeekIn small groups of 4–5, chanichim will take full responsibility for navigating using maps, compasses, and natural landmarks. This immersive week fosters leadership, teamwork, problem-solving, and confidence as they learn to rely on themselves and each other in unfamiliar settings. Important Notice:
Body & Soul WeekA reflective week dedicated to understanding the relationship between physical, spiritual and emotional wellbeing. It’s an opportunity for chanichim to explore personal awareness, mindfulness, and self-care. Important Notice:This week includes a Vipassana Day – a full day of silence without speaking or phone use. On that day, please contact staff directly if needed.
Independence Journey (I-Journey)Known in Mechina as “Chovek”, this week is entirely planned and led by the chanichim in small groups. From daily schedules to logistics, they take full ownership, with staff overseeing and approving all plans. The chanichim will travel by public transportation, and the week offers a meaningful experience of leadership, independence, and group collaboration. It’s one of the most empowering parts of the year, encouraging self-awareness and responsibility within a supportive peer setting.
Sikum Emtza (Mid-Year Reflection)This important week marks the halfway point of the program. The group will focus on reflecting on their journey so far, evaluating personal and group growth, setting goals, and looking ahead with intention.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions. We’re proud of all the growth your children have already shown and are excited for the meaningful experiences ahead.
All the best, Shabtai Pessin Head of Limmud |
